Worcester Play Centre Limited is developmenting 

Cheeky Monkeys SEN Alternative Provision Centre, a safe, nurturing, and highly specialised environment for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in Worcestershire. Our vision is to establish the leading SEN community hub in the county—one that supports children and their families through therapeutic play, structured learning, sensory regulation, and social development.

Initially operating under a Short Breaks Contract, the centre is designed to scale into a DFE-registered Alternative Provision offering consistent educational, social, and wellbeing support. Our purpose-built facilities, experienced staff, and family-centred ethos uniquely position Cheeky Monkeys as an essential service for the SEN community.

Our vision is to provide a safe, calming, inclusive, and engaging environment for SEN children and their families.
We aim to deliver:

• A future DFE-registered educational facility that meets and exceeds national standards of provision.

Facilities Overview

1. Purpose-Built Sensory Room

Our dedicated sensory room is equipped with a wide variety of visual, audio, and tactile equipment designed to support emotional regulation, sensory exploration, and therapeutic interventions.
A Lead Sensory Co-ordinator will deliver structured daily sensory sessions tailored to the needs of each group.

2. Fully Equipped Classroom

We have a purpose-built classroom ready to deliver 1:1 and small-group learning sessions.
As the provision grows, our goal is to employ a full-time teacher and teaching assistant, enabling us to deliver high-quality, personalised education that aligns with EHCP goals and individual learning plans.

3. Large Soft Play Frame (Capacity: 140 Children)

Our expansive soft play structure provides a safe, padded, multi-level environment ideal for exploration, social interaction, physical development, and calming play. Separate gated areas ensure that children of different age groups and ability levels have secure play spaces designed for them.

4. Home-Cooked Catering Facility

We offer nutritious, freshly prepared meals with menus that rotate every two weeks to align with seasonal produce and provide a balanced, varied diet.
Meals can be adapted for dietary, sensory, and allergy requirements.

5. Early and Late Provision

We propose to offer:

• Breakfast Club
• Late Afternoon / Tea Club
  These extended hours support working parents and offer additional routine and structure for children.

Each child will have a dedicated Key Worker / Care Worker on a 1:1 basis, ensuring personalised support and consistent communication with families.

All staff will hold or complete as standard:

• Safeguarding training
• Paediatric First Aid
• Positive Behaviour Support Training
• SEN-specific professional development as required

Future recruitment will include educational staff, including a qualified teacher and teaching assistant, as the centre transitions into DfE registration.

Cheeky Monkeys SEN Alternative Provision Centre will deliver:

1. Specialised SEN-only sessions within a dedicated, safe soft-play facility.
2. Daily sensory programmes run by a trained Sensory Co-ordinator.
3. Structured educational interventions in the classroom, tailored to children’s individual needs.
4. 1:1 key worker support ensuring continuity, progress tracking, and emotional wellbeing.
5. Nutritious, freshly prepared meals adapted to each child’s dietary requirements.
6. Extended hours provisions to support families and reduce childcare barriers.
7. A calm, therapeutic environment promoting emotional regulation, communication, social skills, and independence.

Our long-term strategy focuses on growth, consistency, and compliance:

• Year 1–2: Operate as a Short Breaks Contract centre, collect data, refine systems, build relationships with SEND services, and grow attendance.
• Year 2–3: Expand educational programming and staff capacity.
• Year 3+: Apply for DFE Alternative Provision registration, meeting all standards for safeguarding, curriculum, leadership, and learning outcomes.
• Ongoing: Develop Cheeky Monkeys as the leading SEN community hub in Worcestershire and West Midlands.
